Maumee’s volleyball season might have come to an end against Sandusky Perkins, but the Panthers didn’t go down without a fight.
Perkins won the first two sets of the Division II regional semifinal match in Lexington — including a frighteningly easy win in the second — and staved off a furious rally from the Panthers, sending Maumee to a 26-28, 9-25, 25-20, 25-22, 15-13 loss.
The Panthers ended their season in the regional semifinals for the second straight year. With a 16-11 record this season, Maumee put together two outstanding seasons with a combined 36-18 record, a .667 winning percentage.
Three seniors put together some of their best performances of the year in their final match. Maddie Kontak had 20 digs, and Kylie Miller had 19.
Brynn Brown closed her Maumee career with 25 kills, 20 assists, 15 digs, three blocks, and two aces. She totaled 407 kills, 363 digs, and 430 assists this season.
Jolie Sobb went for a career-high 35 digs with 17 kills, four aces, and two blocks. She averaged nearly 18 digs per game in the postseason.
Three sophomores continued their strong postseason performances. Katelyn Owens had 10 kills and three blocks, Camy Wedge had 25 assists, 13 digs, and three aces, and Avery Lewis had three blocks.
In five postseason games, Owens had 43 kills, nine blocks, and eight aces, and Wedge had 90 assists, 39 digs, and 14 aces.
