The Maumee boys’ soccer team faced off against the Wauseon Indians on Tuesday evening in the District Semifinals. Maumee’s offense exploded early with a goal by senior forward Braden Wagener to give the Panthers an early lead. Senior Kyle Robinson scored shortly after, off a deflection from the Wauseon defense. Just about a minute later, Robinson scored again, assisted by Wagener. Later in the half Wagener scored with a header off a free kick by senior Sam LaChapelle. Wagener then fed the ball to sophomore midfielder Lucas Baril, who scored with a header of his own to give the Panthers a commanding 5-0 lead at the half.
The second half showcased the Maumee midfield and defense, with seniors Adam Diegel and Brent Freeman, junior Chipper Studenka and sophomore Aidan McGann keeping Wauseon from penetrating the Panther side of the field. Wagener scored a hat trick for the night with another goal, assisted by Studenka to extend Maumee’s lead 6-0. The Indians scored later in the half off a corner kick, but the game ended with another Maumee victory and the Panthers advance to the District Finals on Thursday.
