Maumee nabbed the lead late in the fourth innings and tacked on 9 more in the fifth in a 17-7 victory over Napoleon on Friday. The Panthers trailed 5-4 in the top of the fourth inning when Caden Brookshier homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring three runs.
Napoleon scored four runs in the first inning, but Maumee still managed to pull out the victory. Napoleon batters contributing to the big inning included two-run, wind-aided homeruns for Farr and Burken.
Maumee evened things up at four in the top of the third inning on a Justin Key’s sac fly to score a run for the Panthers.
Maumee Panthers Varsity put up nine more in the fifth inning led by Evan Barker, Adam Diegel, Michael Henry, Austin Pauken, and Zach Marvin all contributing in the big inning with RBIs.
Henry was on the hill for Maumee. He allowed six hits and seven runs over five innings, striking out three and walking one.
Kruse led things off on the pitcher’s mound for Napoleon. He surrendered eight runs on nine hits over four innings, striking out one.
Maumee collected 12 hits on the afternoon. Pauken, Diegel, Matt Butler, and Brookshier each collected multiple hits for the Panthers.
