Tonight the Bowsher Rebels came to Maumee High School for the first match of the Lady Panther’s season. It was a hot and humid night and although there was a bit of nervous jitters on the part of both teams (because of the first match, of course,) the Maumee Panthers showed a lot of poise by winning soundly by a score of 5-0.

Below are the scores from each court position:
#1 Singles, C. Durham (M) beat A. Garrett (B) 6-1, 6-0
#2 Singles, C. Waller (M) beat R. Posta (B) 6-2, 6-2
#3 Singles J. Becker (M) beat M. Matlock 6-4, 6-1

# Doubles L. Krist/A. Karrenbauer (M) beat G. Garand/S. Parish (B) 6-0, 6-0
#2 Doubles won by default by Maumee due to insufficient players by Bowsher.

Highlights from the match-
On court number one, Cazie Durham dominated over Aleitta Garrett, who was not feeling well. Bowsher’s coach Erin Crabtree reported that the previous night Aleitta had beaten the number one player from Whitmer in a long and tiring match. The hot and humid conditions tonight could have been a factor in Bowsher’s loss, but credit to the outstanding play by Cazie for this court’s win.

Court number two was Senior Co-captain Claire Waller over Ruth Posta in a smartly played match. All of the points were terrific rallys by both players. Claire showed her experience and consistency by beating Bowsher’s player.

Freshman Julia Becker from Maumee showed she can really play tonight while beating Marce Matlock, a Senior by a score of 6-4, 6-1. Coach Moulton commended Julia for reaching her goal of keeping her opponent to 2 games in the second set and getting her first serve in play the majority of the time.

At #1 Doubles, Senior Co-captain Lindsey Krist and Sophomore Allie Karrenbauer soundly beat the due from Bowsher 6-0, 6-0. Look for great things from both of these two players in the season.

Maumee won the #2 doubles spot by default. If a team doesn’t have enough players (7) then this spot must be defaulted, and in this case, Bowsher had only 5 players.

Maumee is now 1-0 and will play Monday at Rogers for the next match
