Tonight was Senior Night at Maumee High School as the Lady Panthers hosted the Wildcats from Napoleon. Napoleon proved to be the stronger team in general, and was able to keep the ball in play longer. Maumee lost 5-0.
At #1 singles A. Lankenau beat Makayla Gast 6-0, 6-1. Makayla kept up with the Napoleon opponent but Lankenau showed why she is one of the best in the area.
#2 singles was won by Napoleon’s A. Roth over Jane Mavis 6-2, 6-2. Jane’s serves in the first set really were coming in hard and low. This match had a lot of deuce games but in the end, Napoleon’s Roth found the right place to put the ball. Great effort by Mavis.
#1 Doubles saw the Maumee dynamic duo of Kayla Harrigan and Sophie Garber barely losing to Napoleon’s A. Heitman/M. Weller by a score of 7-6, 6-2, 6-1. This was a very long three set match that was fun to watch. Maumee’s doubles team had a tough time capitalizing on Napoleon’s mistakes and made some of their own. All in all, the girls played really well in this close one.
#2 Doubles was won by S. Eberly/J. Torres of Napoleon 6-1, 6-1 over Maumee’s Laura Demagall and Cora Boyles. This doubles team also couldn’t capitalize on the other player’s mistakes, but Coach Moulton saw a lot of improvements, especially serving.
Congratulations to Seniors Makayla Gast, Jane Mavis, Kayla Harrigan and Chloe Rosenburger tonight. A celebration cook out was attended afterwards to commemorate these fine young ladies. Thanks also to all of the parents who brought food and helped with the grill and clean up.
