The Rossford Lady Bulldogs came to the Maumee home courts and in a really close match on all of the courts, the Maumee team came up ahead by a score of 3-2. The Rossford team consists of only three girls so they were forced to default the two doubles courts.
At #1 Singles, Rossford’s Savannah Yandell beat Maumee’s Makayla Gast by a score of 4-6, 6-1, 1-0. This match was very evenly played with Yandell beating Makayla Gast in the tie-breaker. Consistency and serving was the key to Rossford’s win.
#2 Singles was won by Rossford’s Leah Espen over Kayla Harrigan by a score of 4-6, 6-2, 1-0. This match was very even also, but the Rossford player played a bit more consistently and barely won the tie-breaker by a score of 11-9. Kayla really showed a lot of poise in this match but didn’t dominate like she should have in the second set. Coach Moulton said that the “play was dictated by Rossford” in the second set. Kayla continues to improve and should be commended for grinding this match out.
#3 Singles was the key to Maumee’s win tonight and Jane Mavis of Maumee showed her stuff by quickly winning 6-3, 6-3 over Rossford’s Gabi Boyd. Kudos to Jane for really showing how working hard and continuing to practice will pay off. Even though she had a injury on the face after hitting herself with her racket, she shook it off for the win.
Maumee is now 5-1 and plays tomorrow at Southview.
