Calvin M Woodward High School vs Maumee High School

Tonight the Woodward Ladies Tennis Team came to Maumee for a non conference match. All courts had competitive points and the heat seemed to contribute to a bit of a slow match. In the end, the Maumee Lady Panthers proved stronger while winning 4-1.

On court one, the number one singles Sophomore Cazie Durham of Maumee beat Senior D. Woods by a score of 6-1, 6-2. Miss Woods had a lot of spin and could really smoke her forehands, but Cazie was able to consistently keep the ball in play and showed why she is the number one player.

At #2 singles, Maumee’s Claire Waller beat Senior N Warren by a score of 6-3, 6-2. Claire played really well in this match and continues to win. She is now 4-1 at this position.

#3 singles saw Freshmen Julia Becker of Maumee winning 7-5, 6-4 over T. Crutchfield. Kudos to Julia for simply outplaying her opponent. Julia continues to improve!

#1 Doubles was won by Kayla Harrigan and Makayla Gast of Maumee over R. Holmes/K. Dominguez 6-4, 6-3. Kayla really served well and Makayla had some great alley shots in this really close match.

At the #2 doubles position, Woodward won in a tie breaker in the third set by Woodward’s K. Johnson and C. Welles. The heat was a factor tonight on all courts, but a medical time out was needed on this court by one of the Maumee players. The score was 6-4 Maumee in the first set, 7-5 Woodward in the second set and then Woodward won the 10 point tiebreaker. Sophomore Sophie Garber and Freshmen Rachel Moeller of Maumee need to be commended here for hanging in there under adversity and heat.

At JV, Leah Kenyon continued to win by a score of 6-1 over her opponent. Great job by Leah!!

Maumee improves to 4-1 and plays tomorrow at Bowling Green in their first NLL league match.
