The Maumee freshman team got a few new faces for its first game back after the break as a trio of sophomores joined the roster to make what they’re calling a JV B-team.
And in their first action out of the gates, the Panthers nearly grabbed a win over Springfield, but a late 3-pointer sunk Maumee, 22-21.
“Coming back after a month off, I couldn’t ask for anything else,” Panthers coach James Pierce said. “Being down a few freshman girls and having a few sophomores come down to play, all the girls fought hard.”
Sophomore Mady Woodrow led Maumee with seven point, including a 3-pointer in the second quarter. Lily Duling, Skyler Janes, and Hannah Binkowski each added four points.
The Panthers took a 13-12 lead into the fourth quarter, and they held a 2-point lead in the waning moments before the Blue Devils drilled a 3 to take the lead.
