Today at 3 pm the Maumee Girls Tennis team hosted Bryan in a match where experience and overall consistency proved to be the difference in a 5-0 win by Bryan. Bryan had come from the Rossford courts where earlier in the day had a match where they overtook the Bulldogs of Rossford. With their whole team comprised of seniors and juniors, Bryan showed how their practice, experience, and overall shots and serves made the difference.
At court one, Sloane Brown beat Cazie Durham by a score of 6-3, 6-1. Both girls rallied with deep ground strokes and top spin. More consistency by Bryan’s player and overall shot selections proved key in this court’s win.
At #2 singles, Claire Waller was beat by Katie Farrell by a score of 6-0, 6-3. Kudos to Claire for really playing well in this match, especially in the second set.
At #3 singles, Lindsey Krist was overtaken by Jannessa Johnson by a score of 6-1, 6-4. Lindsey showed a lot of aggressiveness in the second set and almost was able to take that set. As the season goes forward, Coach Liz Moulton said Lindsey will take that aggressiveness and grit and get those crucial points to turn a set like that into a win.
At #1 doubles, the duo of Makayla Gast and Julia Becker from Maumee lost to Kate Grothaus/Taylor Peters by a score of 6-0, 6-2. The Bryan team had really great net play and the Maumee team couldn’t win their serves like they should have. Coach Liz said that our doubles teams need to really hit their volleys and put the ball away.
At #2 doubles, Bryan’s Kayla VonSeggern and Kyla Fox beat Maumee’s Allie Karrenbauer and Sophie Garber 6-0, 6-0. This match was the first at varsity for Sophie Garber, and she needs to be commended for playing well. Allie Karrenbauer played well also, but the other team had some great return of serves.
Maumee’s next match is Monday at Rogers High School at 4:30. Maumee is now 1-1.
