Despite extremely solid play by Senior Mid-fielder Colin Wedge, the Maumee Panthers fell to the Bryan Golden Bears in an evenly matched game 3-0. For the majority of the first half, both teams provided end-to-end action, but Bryan’s Quinn Brown scored first at the 29 minute mark to put the Golden Bears on the board 1-0. The Panthers rebounded quickly out-shooting the Golden Bears for the first half, with Senior Colin Wedge and Sophomore Peyton Greenlese, getting so close to tucking the ball in the net, but had a hard time getting past Bryan Goalkeeper, Isaac Lamore. The Golden Bears scored again at the 10 minute mark on a quality finish by Nathan Hess to give them 2-0 at the half. Freshman Keeper, Taylor Lewis had 4 saves for the Panthers in the first half.
The Panthers faced an uphill battle coming into the second half, but came out strong and the end-to-end action continued, as both teams were held scoreless for the majority of the half as the Panthers’ defense locked it in and Senior Goalkeeper Isaac Tolbert made some solid saves before ending the second half with 9. Unfortunately, Bryan’s Nathan Hess struck again at the 14 minute mark to put the Golden Bears up 3-0. The Panthers Offense was able to get a few more shots on goal, but their first real threatening chance came again from Senior Colin Wedge who fired the ball to the top of the net, but it just missed hitting off of the cross bar. The Panthers offense saw seven different players have shots on goal, but it just wouldn’t fall for them today and they had 18 shots to Bryan’s 21.
Up next, the Maumee Panthers head into an extremely tough part of their schedule facing some NLL powerhouses as they first travel to Sylvania Nothview, Tuesday, September 15th at 7:00.
