Playing in the first round of the NLL tournament this year against Anthony Wayne resulted in a 73-30 loss. This was the third time Maumee played AW, and even though the first two games were much closer, this game turned into a lopsided loss.
Coach Osiers Notes
-When you play against the NLL’s best, you have to be on your best. We were not tonight. Kudos to AW a very exceptional game tonight. They shot 60% from the field and made over 60% of the three-pointers.
-Our thorn in our side is “Dog shots” (within 5 feet of the bucket). We work every day on these shots. However, the Panthers were 0-7 on the right side of the block and 4-14 all night. You cannot beat an AW team with that. Once those shots are missed and AW comes down and hits a few 3-pointers the game can get out of hand quickly.
-Maumee has played 10 of its 13 games against D1 opponents this year. A tall order for any team. So I am proud of our kids and their approach to the game and their effort. It’s tough but the kids love playing and want to play.
Leading the Panthers in scoring was sophomore Caden Brown, who got his third start of the season and scored 6 points. 11 players played in this game for Maumee, with 6 sophomores getting decent playing time.
Senior night is this Saturday. Senior night will be a special night.
