After several weeks off due to the shutdown restrictions, Maumee visited Anthony Wayne in a battle of NLL rivals. Anthony Wayne’s impressive first quarter resulted in a 12-2 lead after the first quarter. Maumee battled back in the second quarter cutting the lead to one with 2 minutes before halftime. However, Anthony Wayne closed out the quarter with a 9-2 run to take the halftime lead to 25-17.
After halftime, both teams played hard as they traded baskets the rest of the night. In the end, Anthony Wayne secured the win hitting 9 of 15 from the free-throw line. Coach Osier saw “great passion” in his club, led by Aaron Roberts, Jr.’s inspiring defense. “This team is a lot of fun to coach. They work hard and they are coming together. Anthony Wayne is a very good team and we competed with them all night. I am very proud of our guys.”
Maumee was led in scoring by Jaden Walker with 13 pts (5 rebounds and 5 assists in 35 minutes of play), Aaron Roberts, Jr. with 9 pts (hitting 3 of 4 three-point shots and 3 rebounds in 20 minutes of play), and RJ McCoy, Jr. with 7 pts (2 assists in 20 minutes of play).
Maumee drops to 0-3 on the season. Their next game is Thursday, January 14 at Southview.
Maumee’s JV team improved to 3-0 on the season as they beat Anthony Wayne 46-36. The Freshman team fell to 1-2 on the season losing to Anthony Wayne 39-22.
