The Panthers came out strong against Springfield on Tuesday with aggressive play on both sides of the field. The Panthers’ defense fought hard, with several phenomenal saves in the goal by keeper Isaac Tolbert, including a save on a penalty kick. Junior TJ Carney controlled the back side of the field with aggressive defense. Khoal Williams, along with juniors Joey Yeager and Lucas Baril, also contributed strong defense. Maumee’s offense – with sophomore Alex Leasor, junior Colin Wedge, and senior Andrew Studenka – made a few attempts to hit the net and kept the ball in play throughout the first half. In the end, the Blue Devils put in two goals to end the first half 2-0.
The second half was controlled by the Blue Devils, who scored on a second penalty kick. Two more goals brought the score to 5-0. The Panthers’ JV saw some action in the last half to end the game. Panthers begin tournament play Monday night in Sandusky against Perkins – game time is slated for 5:00pm.
