The boys’ soccer team hosted the Springfield Blue Devils at Kazmaier Stadium on Tuesday for final regular season game. The game was an even match, with both teams having a fair number of shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Isaac Tolbert had several impressive saves that kept Springfield from getting on the board the first half. Maumee scored first with senior Kyle Robinson finding the net off a long pass from fellow senior Sam LaChapelle. Seniors Brent Freeman, Konner Byers and Adam Diegel provided solid defense and the first half ended with the Panthers leading 1-0.
Senior Braden Wagener led the team with shots on goal for the evening and senior Luke Metzger had impressive offensive skills, making up for the loss of denior Tyler Nayfack who was injured in the first half. Springfield scored twice in the second half, though, and the final score was 2-1 in favor of the Blue Devils.
The Maumee boys’ soccer team ended their regular season with an impressive 10-5-1 record. They are the number one seed in the District tournament, which begins Monday, October 15th on their home turf at Chapman Field.
