Game Recap

Maumee faced off against the Perkins Pirates on Thursday in the second round of the Division II Sectional Tournament at Kazmaier Stadium. Junior forward Braden Wagener scored first after deflecting a block by Perkins’ goalkeeper and putting the Panthers up 1-0. Junior forward Tyler Nayfack added to the lead when he shot the ball into the far right corner of the net off a backwards pass by Wagener. Midfielders Jeremy Fradette and Brock Sautter kept the Pirates from crossing into Maumee territory for most of the first half, but Perkins scored their lone goal off a free kick just outside the penalty box. Wagener built up the Panthers lead in the first half by scoring three more goals, while senior forward Bryan Pouter scored a pair of his own goals late in the first forty minutes.
In the second half, defenders Sam LaChapelle, Konner Byers and Aidan McGann kept the frustrated Pirates from scoring any further. Late in the match, senior defender Lucas Krist entered the game on offense and scored the final goal of the night, giving Maumee an 8-1 victory.
The Panthers advance to the District semifinals against Bowling Green at Lake High School at 7:30 on Monday, October 23, 2017.

Game Recap

The Maumee mens’ soccer team faced off against the Swanton Bulldogs in the first round of the Division II Sectional Tournament on Tuesday. The Panthers scored first in the first ten minutes of the first half when senior Justin Albright scored off an assist by junior Braden Wagener to put Maumee up 1-0. Maumee’s offense stayed aggressive throughout the match, and outshot the Bulldogs 31-3 overall. Wagener added to the lead with a goal, assisted by junior Tyler Nayfack, and then Wagener returned the favor by assisting Nayfack on a score, giving Maumee a 3-0 lead at the half.
Swanton scored their only goal early in the second half with a header to cut the Panthers’ lead to 3-1. After that, though, it was all Maumee with two corner kicks by Nayfack resulting in goals by junior Kyle Robinson and Wagener, who scored his second goal of the night with a backwards header. Senior forward Bryan Pouter added two goals of his own, with Robinson assisting on both. Wagener scored the final goal of the night with under ten minutes to go in the match, which ended in a solid 8-1 victory for Maumee.
