CHEERLEADING

EMILY ERY

Responsibility: Head Varsity Cheerleading, 4th year

High School: Emily graduated from Otsego High School in 2009.

College: In 2013, Emily received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Bowling Green State University.  In 2015, she received a Master’s Degree in Classroom Technology from Bowling Green State University. Emily is also currently working on a Master’s Degree in School Counseling.

Experience: Emily began her coaching career in 2009. She has coached all levels of cheerleading including youth, middle school, high school, and all-star. Prior to coaching at Maumee, Emily coached for 3 years at Springfield High School. While coaching at Springfield, the competitive cheer squad qualified twice for State Competition and was a National qualifier. While at Maumee, Emily coached the 2016-2017, 2017-2018, & 2018-2019 (5th at state) state qualifying competitive cheer squad.

 

AMANDA NYE

Responsibility: Head Dance Team, 5th year; Maumee Assistant Cheerleading Coach, 4th year.  

High School: Amanda is a graduate of Trinity High School. During high school, Amanda was a varsity cheerleader, OASSA State Champion 2013, and a Jazz Energy dancer and Dynamic Dance Force dancer at Studio 82.

College: Amanda is a graduate of Bowling Green State University with a degree in Dance Education in the College of Movement and Development. Amanda was also on the BGSU Dance Team for one year and Vice President of University Dance Alliance. She is currently working on her Masters in Early Childhood at the University of Toledo.

Experience: Amanda started her coaching career in 2008 at St. Francis De Sales Elementary/Junior High in Parma, Ohio. Amanda’s coaching accomplishments include: CYO 2nd place Team and Duet Champions (2009-10); OASSA State Championship-5th Place-Jazz (2016); OASSA State Championship-9th Place-Jazz (2017); 10th-Place Pom (2017); OASSA State Championship-16th Place-Jazz (2018); OASSA State Championship-11th Place-Pom (2019) and 13th Place-Jazz (2019).  Amanda is currently a teacher/choreographer at Tahyah’s Dance Studio and a teacher at the Toledo School of the Arts. Amanda opened her own dance studio, Nye Dance Productions, in Oregon, Ohio.

 

LINDSEY DREWYOR

Responsibility: JV Cheerleading, 1st year 

High School: Lindsey is a 2014 graduate of Milan High School.

College: Lindsey is graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science. While at BGSU she was on the BGSU Cheerleading team and National Team for 5 years. 

Experience: Lindsey’s coaching experience includes being an assistant cheer coach at BGSU.

 

KATE KARCHNER

Responsibility: Freshman Cheerleading, 1st year.  

High School: Kate is a 2009 graduate of Maumee High School.

College: Kate is a 2013 graduate of Denison University. Dr. Karchner just received her Ph.D. at the University of Michigan. 

Experience: This is Kate’s first year coaching cheerleading. She is also an assistant coach for Maumee Track and Field. 

Family: Kate is married to Brendan (‘09 grad). Their dog Nellie is also a Panther Fan!  

CROSS COUNTRY

KAREN BREBBERMAN

Responsibility: Head Varsity Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, 2nd Year

High School: Karen is a 1983 graduate of Maumee High School. During her four years, Karen was a standout athlete earning many accolades in cross country and track & field. She served as team captain for both cross country and track her senior year. While running for MHS, her teams won five out of eight possible opportunities to be N.L.L. champions. Karen also was on the Panther basketball team for three years. Karen was a four-time All-NLL selection for cross country and track & field. She earned First-Team all four years in both cross country and track & field.  Karen finished 25th in the state in cross country her junior year. Karen was awarded the Most Valuable Runner all four seasons in cross country and three seasons in track and field. During her time on the cross country courses, she earned four varsity letters, was a two-time all league champ, state qualifier and earned league and district honors. Karen was also an individual runner up while on the cross country team. At the OHSAA State Championships, Karen finished 25th in the state her junior year. In track & field, Karen also earned four varsity letters, earned all league honors and earned seven individual NLL championships in the 400 meter run, the 1600 meter, and 3200 meter relays during her four-year career.  Karen still holds the record in the 1600 meter relay at MHS (4:09.5). Karen is a 2018 Maumee Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee.  

College: Karen graduated from Ohio University in 1987, earning a degree in elementary education. She earned her Master’s degree in Library Media at the University of Toledo in 1992.

Experience: Karen continues to give back to Maumee in her free time by coaching middle school track and holds the position of  intramural advisor at Gateway Middle School, which she began in 2000. Karen also held the position of the MHS varsity girls cross country coach in 2012-2015.  

Family: Karen has two daughters, Kelsey (2013) and Morgan (2014), who also graduated from Maumee and ran on both the cross country and track teams as well as swam for MHS. 

 

DANCE TEAM

AMANDA NYE

FOOTBALL

CAM COUTCHER

Responsibility: Varsity Head Football, 1st year  

High School: Cam is a 1997 graduate from Maumee High School.  While at Maumee from 1993-1997, he played four years of baseball and football earning two letters in each sport.  Football Awards: As a senior he was voted captain of the football team. Cam also earned 1st Team All NLL as a wide receiver, 2nd Team All NLL defensive back, and Honorable Mention All District wide receiver.  He was voted the team’s most valuable player and played in the Black and Gold All Star Game in Perrysburg. As a junior Cam was a 2nd Team All NLL defensive back. Baseball Awards: As a senior, Cam was a 1st Team All NLL catcher, Honorable Mention All District, and he played in the Local All Star game at The University of Toledo.  As a junior, he was a 2nd Team All NLL outfielder.

College: Cam is a 2001 graduate from Defiance College.  While at Defiance from 1997-2001, he played one year of football and four years of baseball. Awards:  Cam was a four-year starter on the Defiance College baseball team. As a senior he was named team captain.  Cam was also voted 1st Team Heartland Conference as an outfielder. As a sophomore, he was voted 2nd Team All MIAA designated hitter, he was named player of the week twice, and he was invited to play for a U.S. National Team in Europe.  Cam can still be found in the offensive record books at Defiance College. 

Experience: Cam spent 17 seasons as the head varsity baseball coach at Maumee.  In his tenure at Maumee, he has had the pleasure of coaching 1 Northern Lakes League Championship team (2004), 6 Sectional Championship teams (2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017), 1 District Championship team (2017), and 1 Regional Championship team (2017).  Cam was awarded NLL Coach of the Year in 2004, and in 2017, he was awarded Defiance College Alumni Coach of the Year. Several of Cam’s players have gone on to play college baseball at all levels, been selected as All NLL, All District, Academic All-Ohio, All-Ohio, and have been selected to the MIZUNO All-Ohio baseball series; in addition, two of his former players were drafted out of college into MLB. Cam has also coached football in the Maumee School District for the past 18 years.  He was a freshman coach for three seasons, has coached eighth grade coach for six seasons, and had previously been on the varsity staff for nine seasons (three as offensive coordinator).

Family: Cam lives in Waterville with his wife, Nancy, and daughters Julia (10 years) and Blake (7 years).

 

KEN WALCZAK

Responsibility: Varsity Head Wrestling, 18th year; Assistant Football Coach, 32nd year   

High School: Ken is a 1984 graduate of Maumee High School.  He was 1st team all Northern Lakes League Conference in football and a two time Northern Lakes League Conference champion in wrestling. Ken was wrestling team captain when Maumee was the Northern Lakes League Conference champions.

College: Ken graduated from Ashland University in 1988.  He played football there for 4 years. His accomplishments include a 2-year starter in 21 games, 2-time offensive lineman all Heartland Conference, and a member of the 1986 National NCAA Division II playoff team.

Experience: Ken has 17 years’ experience as the head wrestling at Maumee High School. He also has 6 years as an assistant wrestling coach at Maumee High School.  Ken was also an assistant wrestling coach at Rossford High School for 4 years. Ken coached 2 years as a wrestling coach at Gateway Middle School.  Ken has been an assistant football coach with Maumee High School for 27 years. He also spent 4 years as an assistant football coach at Rossford High School. Ken coached 1 year of track at Gateway Middle School.  In 2003 Ken was the Ohio Division 2 wrestling coach of the year. He was head wrestling coach of the 2002, 2003, 2008 & 2009 Northern Lakes League Conference championship teams.

 

NICK MILLER

Responsibility: Assistant Varsity Football coach, 2nd Year 

High School: Nick graduated from Maumee High School with an honors diploma. While at Maumee he earned 10 varsity letters in football, wrestling, and track. Nick was all earned all league honors in football, wrestling, and track his senior year along with all academic honors.

College: Nick is a graduate of the University of Toledo.

Experience: This is Nick’s 3rd year coaching at the varsity level. He previously coached both football and wrestling at the middle school and freshman level. This is Nick’s overall 11th year of coaching.    

Family: Nick has been married to his wife for 5 years and have 1 son.

 

CONRAD KOLBOW JR

Responsibility: Assistant Varsity Football coach, 11th year 

High School: Conrad is a 1975 graduate of Maumee High School. He earned All League honors in baseball.

College: Conrad attended the University of Toledo in 1976, 1980-1981 and Bluffton University in 1977-1979. While at Bluffton University Conrad was a baseball letter winner.

Experience: Conrad has 19 years of coaching football. He coached 2 years at Ottawa Hills High School as a varsity football assistant, 2 years at Rogers High School as a varsity football assistant, 3 years at Cardinal Stritch High School as a varsity football assistant, 1 year at Cardinal Stritch High School as head coach, and 11 years at Maumee High School as the varsity assistant and freshman coach.

Family: Conrad has been married to wife Kim (’80) for 36 years. They have 3 children Bridgett (’06) , Erick (’08), and Kurt (’11). Bridgett and her husband Chad have two children Camden & Bennett.

 

RAFAEL SOLER 

Responsibility: Assistant Football coach, 2nd year 

High School: Rafel is a 2008 graduate of Fisher Catholic High School. 

College: In 2013, Rafael received a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmaceutical Science from the University of Toledo. In 2014, he received a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Toledo.

Experience: Rafael has coached basketball for 3 years at Maumee Valley Country Day School. While at Maumee, Rafael has coached 1 year of football and freshman girls basketball. 

 

ADAM JUNGA 

Responsibility: Assistant Football coach, 1st Year 

High School: Adam is a 2005 graduate of Maumee High School.

College: Adam is a graduate of the University of Toledo, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. He is currently finishing his Master’s Degree from BGSU. 

Experience: Adam has been coaching football for 14 years including at Maumee High School, Gateway Middle School, the University of Toledo, and Anthony Wayne High School,   

Family: Adam is married to Meghan for almost 10 years. They have 4 children, Graham (9 years), Oliver (7 years), August (5 years), and Lindsay (2 years).

 

TIM WILHELM 

Responsibility: Assistant Football coach, 1st Year 

High School: Tim is a 2009 graduate of Maumee High School. While at Maumee Tim played 4 years of football and Track & Field. 

College: Tim graduated in 2013 from the University of Toledo with a Bachelor’s Degree in Middle Childhood Education, Math & Science. 

Experience: Tim’s coaching experience includes 9 years of football at Maumee (3 at the varsity level, 3 at the freshman level, and 3 at the middle school level) and 2 years of coaching Track & Field at Gateway. 

 

TOM BURZINE 

Responsibility: Assistant Football coach, 1st Year 

High School: Tom is a 2005 graduate of Connetquot High School (Long Island, New York). He was the Most Outstanding Male Athlete is 2005, All League/All County Player in 2004-2005, and is an Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee. 

College: Tom is a 2010 graduate from the University of Toledo. While attending UT, Tom played Tight End on the football team from 2005-2009. 

Experience: Tom brings 9 years of coaching experience to Maumee. He was an assistant football coach at Ottawa Hills HS (2010-2013), St. Francis HS (2014-2015), and Geono HS (2015-2018).   

Family: Tom has been married to Amanda for 2 years. They have a daughter Kennedi (12 years), son Jet (1 year), a baby boy due October 2019, and dog Brady. 

 

GOLF

JAKE TAPLEY  

Responsibility: Head Varsity Men’s Golf, 3rd year

High School: Jake is a 2005 graduate of Lake High School. He was a 4-year varsity letter winner in golf.

College: Jake is a 2009 graduate of The Ohio State University and 2015 graduate of BGSU.

Experience: This is Jake’s 3rd year coaching at Maumee. Jake was previously the JV golf coach at Bowling Green.  

Family: Jake is married to Sarah. They have a 4-year-old daughter Carolyn and a 20th month old son Owen. 

 

ALLISON WILLIAMS

Responsibility: Head Varsity Women’s Golf, 1st year

High School: Allison is a 2009 graduate of Rossford High School. 

College: Allison is a 2013 Magna Cum Laude graduate of Bowling Green State University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. 

Experience: This is the beginning of Allison’s coaching journey! 

Family: Allison and her husband Blake have one son, Parker, who is 4 months old. 

 

MEN’S SOCCER

CHAD KAIN 

Responsibility: Head Varsity Men’s Soccer, 2nd year 

High School: Chad is a graduate of Maumee High School. While at Maumee Chad played soccer. He earned 1st Team NLL Honors and All State Honors. 

College: Chad is a 1990 graduate of Tiffin University. While at Tiffin University he played soccer. 

Experience: Chad has been coaching soccer at Maumee for 2 years. His other coaching experience includes 1 year at Northview High School, 4 years at Pacesetter Soccer Club, and Ohio North Youth Soccer Association Coach.

Family: Chad has been married to Alissa for 22 years. They have 3 children, Avery (senior), Ethan (freshman), and Harper (3rd grade). 

 

KEITH NIELSEN 

Responsibility: Varsity Assistant Men’s Soccer, 2nd year

 

WOMEN’S SOCCER

JEREMIAH McNUTT

Responsibility: Head Varsity Women’s Soccer, 1st year  

High School: Jeremiah is a 1995 graduate of Toledo Central Catholic High School. His soccer honors include being 3 years varsity starting goalkeeper, and two year captain.

College: Jeremiah attended The University of Toledo where he graduated with a Bachelor in Psychology in 2001.

Experience: Jeremiah’s coaching experience covers over 20+ years on the sidelines, with stops at Toledo Central Catholic Women’s Program (1996-2001), Toledo Celtics Soccer Club Men’s and Women’s Program (1996-2003), Owens Community College Men’s Program and Women’s Club (2002-2010), Northeastern Junior College Men’s Program (2010-2013), Toledo St. John’s Men’s Program (2014-2018) and Maumee Express (2019-Present). He has held the following positions along the way: Head Goalkeeper Coach, JV Head Coach, Assistant Head Coach, Program Director, Head Coach and Player Development Head Coach.

Family: Jeremiah is the father to one daughter, 11 year old Jessi.

 

LUCAS TOLAR

Responsibility: Varsity Assistant Women’s Soccer, 1st year

 

WOMEN’S TENNIS

ELIZABETH MOULTON

Responsibility: Head Varsity Women’s Tennis, 8th year

High School: Elizabeth is a graduate of Birmingham Groves High School (Michigan). She was a 4 year Girls Varsity Tennis Team.

College: Elizabeth graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from Marquette University.

Experience: Elizabeth is United States Tennis Association (USTA) trained to teach kids the sport of tennis. She has been coaching 8 years for Maumee High School. Elizabeth works for the USTA/NWOTA as the Junior Tennis Coordinator for Northwest Ohio. 

Family: Elizabeth has been married 23 years to Rob. They have two children, Logan and Lucas.

 

VOLLEYBALL

LINDSAY VANNETT

Responsibility: Head Varsity Women’s Volleyball, 8th year.

High School: Lindsay graduated from Bowling Green High School in 2004.

Lindsay was a 2-year varsity letter winner in track, 3-year varsity letter winner in basketball, and 2-year varsity letter winner in volleyball. In volleyball, her team was district runner-up in 2002 and 2003. In 2004 Lindsay earned the Most Improved Player in Volleyball and Basketball. She also played in the district’s all star game.

College: Lindsay graduated from Bowling Green State University in 2008. She played club volleyball from 2005-2008 placing 3rd in the nation in 2006 and 2007. She was club president from 2007-2008. She also has received her health certification and will finish her masters in athletic administration and coaching in the spring of 2019.

Experience: Lindsay has been coaching varsity volleyball for 14 years. She has also coached 8 years of middle school and high school basketball. Lindsay has also been an assistant athletic director for 2 years. While coaching at Bowling Green High School her team was NLL Champs in 2005, 2006, and 2007 and were regional qualifiers for 2 of those seasons. Also the Cleveland Volleyball Company in 2009 were national runners up.

Family: Lindsay has been married for five years. She and her husband had their first child, a son, Noah in the fall of 2017. She is also expecting baby #2 in the winter of 2020. 

 

LEXIE CURTIS

Responsibility: JV Volleyball Coach, 2nd year

High School: Lexie started her high school career at Eagle River High School (Alaska.) She was a first team all conference in volleyball and a scholar athlete. Lexie graduated from Bedford High School where she was a scholar athlete. 

College: Lexie received her Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from Lourdes University. While at Lourdes University Lexie was a 4 year scholar athlete and hold the record for most aces in a season. 

Experience: Prior to coaching at Maumee High School Lexie has coached club volleyball for 5 years. Lexie still plays and competes in volleyball tournaments today. 

Family: Lexie credits her parents Dave & Katie Nigh for teaching her everything she knows about volleyball. Recently Lexie has gotten engaged and is getting married next summer!  

 

DANAE WEDGE

Responsibility: Freshman Volleyball Coach, 1st Year 

High School: Danae is a 1994 graduate of Toledo Christian. 

College: Danae is a 1998 graduate of Asbury College.

Experience: Danae’s coaching experience includes Toledo Christian (1999), Maumee Freshman (2003) Maumee JV (2004-2007), Toledo Christian Varsity (2014-2016), and Whiteford Varsity Assistant (2016-2017). 

Family: Danae is married to Chris. They have 3 children, Colin (Junior), Camy (Freshman), and Caris (6th grader). 

 

ANGIE WANNEMACHER

Responsibility: Volunteer Assistant Varsity Women’s Volleyball

High School: Angie is a graduate of Elida High School. She earned 10 varsity letters, All-League selection and All Ohio Honors for volleyball, basketball, and softball.

College: Angie received her Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training from the University of Findlay. While at the University of Findlay she played volleyball and softball. 

Experience: Angie was a volunteer assistant coach last season for Maumee but overall has 16 years of coaching experience. Angie is co-director at Toledo Beach Volleyball Club. She is proud to say she has grown the game of beach volleyball and the first to do in the Maumee/Toledo area. She also has coached at TVC for 5 years. Angie is a BCAP II certified coach and has been part of coaching many teams into the junior beach national volleyball tournament. Angie still trains and competes in professional beach volleyball tournaments. 

Family: Angie is the daughter of John & Judy Wannemacher. She is the oldest of 3 and her family is her everything.
