Maumee High School
Sandusky High School
The Maumee Panthers menâs soccer team traveled out to Lake High School again on Thursday to face the Sandusky Blue Streaks in the District Final. It was an even match for most of the first half, with the ball on both sides of the field. Defenders Sam LaChapelle, Konner Byers and Lucas Krist defended the net well, but the Blue Streaks snuck in a goal with ten minutes left in the first half to lead 1-0.
Maumee put the pressure on immediately in the second half and kept control of the ball early on. Forwards Braden Wagener and Bryan Pouter were blanketed by the Sandusky defense, despite making several runs at the net. The Blue Streaks scored again to extend their lead to 2-0. The Panthers never let up, though, and with two minutes left in the match, senior Brock Sautter put Maumee on the board and his shot narrowed Sanduskyâs lead by one. Despite their best efforts, including those by Justin Albright, Jeremy Fradette and Kyle Robinson, Maumee unfortunately lost their final game of the year by the narrowest of margins.
The Panthers ended their 2017 season with an overall record of 11-7-2.
