Game Recap

Maumee Girls Soccer traveled to Napoleon for their final regular season game of the 2017 season. Conditions were less than ideal with swirling winds and drizzling rain. Despite the weather, the Panthers were intent on ending the regular season on a high note. Sophomore Zoe Ramirez gave Maumee an early 1-0 lead scoring in the 15th minute. Ramirez took a tough shot from a difficult angle, but managed to beat the very talented Wildcat keeper on the near post. The Panthers would then dig in and play tough, aggressive, lockdown defense. Defenders, midfielders, and forwards all did their part to apply pressure and contest every Napoleon pass, trap, and shot. Sophomore captain and goalie Analeyse Smith did her best to preserve the Panther lead as well. All together Smith tallied 10 saves with several coming from close range as Wildcat strikers broke away with 1 on 1 opportunities. The 1-0 result would hold for the remainder of the match, and Smith would record her 4th shutout of the season. The gutsy team performance secured a regular season record of 7-9. The Panthers will now look to continue their two game winning streak into the state tournament. The team will take the field next on Saturday, October 21st against an opponent and at a location to be determined.
