Maumee High School
The varsity Panther mensâ soccer team hosted the Bryan Golden Bears at Kazmaier Stadium Saturday evening. Maumee kept control of the ball most of the match, and junior Braden Wagener scored the first Panther goal to take the lead 1-0. Junior Kyle Robinson, recently returning after being sidelined with an ankle injury, made it 2-0 with a shot that ricocheted off the post and into the net. Wagener was too much for Bryanâs defense as he scored three more goals in the first half â off a throw in by Robinson, an assist from senior Nate Gauthier and finally on a header off a corner kick by junior Tyler Nayfack.
Nayfack scored a pair of his own goals in the second half, the first off a penalty kick and the other with an assist by Wagener. The defense, including impressive hustle by junior Konner Byers, kept the Golden Bears from scoring, with the Panthers outshooting Bryan 41-2. The final goal of the night was again scored by Wagener, assisted by Nayfack, and Maumee came away with a resounding 8-0 victory.
