The Maumee boys track team finished 5th in the Northern Lakes League Championship track meet. Leading the way for the Panthers, taking home 1st place finishes, were Austin Sholl in the 800m (2:00.45) and Zak Kirk in the 3200m (9:52.47). Austin Sholl’s 800m win was the highlight of the night! It was a career best. He ran such an intelligent race, going through the first 400m in 61 seconds, and then closing in 59. His final 200m was 27 seconds. No one could catch him. Zak Kirk was again the class of the field in the 3200, taking his second consecutive NLL championship in the 3200m.
Other notable finishes came from Matt Lucas, who ran a career-best 4:32 in the 1600m to take second. He held his own against one of the best runners in all of Ohio. This is Utter’s first year on the track team and he has proven to be a real asset. Ryan Barry was 5th in the 3200m (10:22.37), which was a 26 second drop from his previous best set two weeks before. Three years of commitment and training have made Ryan a very solid distance runner.
